By: Alexa Y.
In 1968, a United States platoon under the command of Lieutenant William Calley, Jr, had massacred innocent civilians in the village of My Lai in South Vietnam. Valley tried searching for Vietcong attackers but did not find any but the troops rounded up villagers and shot more than 200 innocent Vietnamese consisting of women, children, and elderly men. The troops insisted that they were not responsible for the shootings because they were only following Calley's orders. Twenty-five army officers were changed with some degree of responsibility but Calley was the only one convicted and put in prison.
