U.S. Involvement in Cambodia
By: Gabby D.
By 1970, it seemed as if the war was dwelling out and it was finally coming to an end. However, on April 30, 1970, President Richard Nixon announced that U.S troops had invaded Cambodia. Their goal was to eliminate North Vietnamese and Vietcong supply centers. Many Americans, especially student protesters, became angered by this decision. The United State's invasion in Cambodia left a brutal civil war. While the country was in dispute, a communist group called Khmer Rouge seized power under the leadership of Pol Pot in 1975. During Pol Pot's leadership, he was very cruel and was accused of killing 1 million Cambodians, giving his reign the title of "reign of terror".
